“Did you ever pour glue on a bird? . . . Of course not! You don’t have to!”

– One of my favorite George Carlin lines, years ago on the Tonight Show one night, back when it was hosted by Johnny Carson.

More recently, on HBO, he was talking about his mother, and about growing up with his brother:

“‘Well, it didn’t get up and walk away.’ That was my mom’s favorite thing to say. When me and my brother couldn’t find something, Hey ma, where’s my jacket? ‘Well, it didn’t get up and walk away.’ Hey, ma, I can’t find my baseball mitt? ‘Well, it didn’t get up and walk away.” … Then one day we couldn’t find the cat.”
