I have been really busy with work. And, twice a week, I have been teaching someone to read. It’s fun and I’m learning a lot. So is the learner. :) I never really thought about it but English is pretty hard. Take ou. Can sound like bought, round, wound, adjourn. 1 in 5 adults in Nashville can’t read above the 3rd grade level. :(

Today the new symphony space opens up here in Nashville, and it is beautiful.

On the menu:

Shostakovich - Festive Overture
Fleck/Hussain/Meyer - Concerto
Barber - Essay No. 2 for Orchestra
Mahler - Symphony No. 2 (4th and 5th Movements)

You can listen to the opening gala at 6pm CST tonight 09/09/06 at WPLN online on the FM station. I’m going in May to a Haydn symphony & Bartok concerto. I like composers who use folk music motifs and stuff, though I’ve never been to a symphony concert and am pretty ignorant about the whole genre. I went to the opera once, though, in Detroit. It was Dame Joan Sutherland’s final performance of Norma. Gary Burton and Chick Corea are playing that new symphony hall but it is sold out. I’m going to see if Darryl can get us some tickets though, since Gary Burton played on his CD (which you can buy here) and also his forthcoming one. Probably slim chance but I’ll ask anyway.

It is good to see efforts to help others read. I’m sure that kid will appreciate your help later on in life.

I’ve been visiting your blog for several days now, and it is very nice. I find the news and blogroll very useful.
