Associate Web Editor, Poetry/Media — The Online NewsHour

The Associate Web Editor will produce the web site for the NewsHour Poetry Series:

www.pbs.org/newshour/indepth_coverage/entertainment/poetry/

The Associate Web Editor creates poet bios; chooses poems and photos; obtains rights; and, helps conceptualize and produce multi-media features and other activities related to the production of the Poetry Series. This individual also develops outreach and content relationships with poetry organizations and departments.

The Associate Editor will also assist with maintenance of the Media web site which houses the NewsHour’s coverage of the news industry and other media stories. The Associate Editor will serve as the main point of contact with broadcast producers and correspondents with the Poetry and Media units.

The Associate Web Editor reports to the Editor of the Online NewsHour. The job is located in the Washington, D.C. area. Some evenings are required.

The position runs through the term of the project grant (February 2007), but continued funding is expected.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The ideal candidate will have at least four years of journalism and some Web experience; comfort with learning new computer programs; and demonstrated knowledge of poetry and media issues.

SALARY: $40,000
