Poetry Tulip has vanished

Harpur Palate has taken *part* of one of my sonnet sequences for publication. I’ve gotten a very thorough drubbing this year as far as poetry rejections go. So except for my “Horton Hears a Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf” couplet that won that humor contest, this is my first good publication news since February. Ah, well. I still like my dactylic pantoum about the lottery. I’ll keep trying to find a home for it for a little while more.

Did you know the guy who invented the spring-loaded mousetrap also invented the first automatic, portable, machine gun? Death and efficiency, eh? Someone needs to write an essay on that! (His son founded the ARRL — I’m a lifetime member — so that is how I stumbled on that bit of trivia.)

Never give up, Jilly! Keep your dreams and keep crossing the street for your appointment with destiny. You will find your dreams somewhere on that other street.

Great that you link to this article abt Adam Mickiewicz, probably the greatest Polish poet, and his great Polish epic, Pan Tadeusz. Just so happens that I recently completed a new translation (all three hundred pages of his alexandrine couplets!) available as a free PDF download from HarrowGate Press:

Congratulations on the acceptance! Somehow it seems like the ones at the end of the year are the most fun. Maybe because you’ve already made a mental list of “well, here’s how this year went” and then you get to revise it to be better. :)
