Maplehurst Inn Knoxville Tennessee

Did you know that a toilet tank flapper can be used as a bathtub stopper? I did not, until my sister and I stayed at the Maplehurst Inn B&B in Knoxville, Tennessee, and were offered that hardware as a replacement stopper this morning. And due to an “overbooking” or a “mix-up” from Hotels.com we are being kicked out tonight. There is a convention in town so things ARE chaotic but the proprietor does seem to try. Instead of our present room with a king-sized bed, he has offered to let one of us sleep on a futon, and one of us sleep on the floor tonight.

A man’s black handprint on the underside of the toilet (as if had been dusted for fingerprints) is an added bonus.

I don’t feel enumerating all the fresh hells. And I toured with an indie rock band & stayed in motels where a gun hung from a rope behind the front desk alongside a sign that said “In case of robbery.” I am even grossed out.

Do not stay here. It is the MapleHurts Inn.

Is that the little B&B off of Westland Road in west Knoxville? I’ve always wondered what it was like. If it is that place, now I know, eh? Sorry about the hassles….

Scott - it is near the stadium on Hill St (between the rr tracks and Henley) in a Victorian house like by World’s Fair Park. Perhaps the owner has some sort of scam going with hotels.com because each and every other guest also had issues with their reservations. Maybe he double-books, then blames the hotels.com system for the “mix-up,” & tries various methods to get guests to leave? That way he still gets paid (through hotels.com).

Nuh-uh.

We had him pay for a room in the Crowne Plaza for us that subsequent night.

Euw…Euw. I stayed in a chain hotel (a cheeeeeeeep one) in Gary, Indiana once, and didn’t realize that the bed had, uh, been used, until I got into it for the night. I screamed, jumped up, and ran to the desk and got a new room. I still shudder when I think about it. And now I’ve shared it with you. :) Perhaps I’m exorcised now?
