  1. Myreen Moore Nicholson says:

De was my best friend while he was in Norfolk, Virginia, in the late Seventies. We helped one another through some trying times, and kept up our friendship, visiting each other regularly after his move to Delaware and New York state.. He was unusually generous for a man of his reputation.

    Myreen,
I know that De would say the same of you.

  3. Mike McLane says:

He was not just a great poet, but he was the best teacher I ever had.

More important than his poetry was his contribution to poetry in general, through his enthusiastic support of other poets. To use a sports analogy, in poetry he was The Play-Maker.

Will there be a memorial service in Norfolk, VA? NYC? Madison County? In Chicago at Poetry Mag? Syracuse?

  4. Lyle Daggett says:

Off-topic, I realize, but just wanted to add my hopes that all goes well for you while you’re “away,” and hoping to see you back here, if that works out for you and you find you’re able. Salud.
